RANCHI CRICKET STADIUM, INDIA

An icon for Ranchi and for the world of cricket, the 2009 concept design for Ranchi Cricket Stadium  bears the colours of India’s national flag and echoes the form of its national flower, the Lotus. Like the Lotus flower, this structure is a symbol of culture, wealth and enlightenment and a landmark of world architecture. Featuring an unfurling, undulating roof that is generated by two orbiting curves in space, it creates a complex spatial trajectory. The outer edge of the roof touches the ground at four points giving a dynamic sense of movement.
