EXPO 2000

Balmond creates a 3D warp across space by lofting a sequence of numbers to form a wave. A white fabric covers the top and bottom surface of the roof, supported by a space truss, to match its undulating surface. The result is a convincing rhythm, a representation of the sea, to reflect the essence of Mondego River in Coimbra, Portugal, where the pavilion has been relocated.
