CHEMNITZ STADIUM

Chemnitz Stadium departs from the traditional language of stadia design. Conventionally, geometry is coordinated and meticulous in method, contriving lateral rings; and in elevation, the roof is conjoined to the stands.

Here instead a more dynamic, unpredictable system is formed, with the stadium acting as a metaphor for the games itself. There are several axes – one orbit for the track, one orbit for the seating, and one orbit for the roof. By fixing the track to the landscape, the seating tiers can be placed as a floating object with a cloud-like roof hovering over.
