ARPEGGIO ARRIVES AT HISTORIC CHICAGO STATION

Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel was present at a ceremony to mark an important milestone in the $203 million Wilson Station reconstruction project. Highlighting the occasion was the special reveal of Balmond's Arpeggio, an artwork commissioned specially for the historic project.

Balmond was chosen from over 200 candidates to create the talismanic piece for the main station house. Arpeggio conjures the charm of 1920’s art deco in a visually dynamic modern geometric sculpture. Light form and and reflection interact, creating a constantly evolving aesthetic. While its style hints at some of the city’s dominant historic architecture, the name of the piece invokes the strong influence that Chicago had in shaping jazz music history.

Hoping to weave itself into the city’s cultural fabric over time, Arpeggio can now be viewed by all commuters and visitors to Uptown.
